In the first picture
you can (almost) see two steam locos. 6233 is seen near Penmaenmawr on 11/09/2004
The second loco, DeWinton 0-4-0VBT PENMAEN, is high up on the mountain. Built
in 1878 and believed to have been unused since about 1943. It is on the flat
area just behind the remains of the winding drum indicated by the arrow.
The black and white
photos were taken early in the 1970s and include a view from the winding drum
shown in the first picture. The drum is the one that can be seen from the A55
road as well as the railway. Not long before the 1970s photos were taken,
someone had been to the site and taken any parts that could be removed and
painted the lettering on the loco and shed. They left a note to say the parts
would be used on another loco. It would be interesting to know which one.
The last photo taken
in about 2003 shows Penmaen outside its shed. Believed to have been pulled out
by someone, as it was thought that the shed roof was about collapse. This must
be the oldest non-preserved Locomotive still remaining at its place of work.
